Health & Nutrition
The current combination of escalating food costs, climate-related weather extremes and armed conflict is leading to a global hunger crisis. Even in 2023, there are no signs of abating in sight. At the end of 2022, 249 million people in 79 countries were acutely food insecure - almost half of them children. Save the Children supports malnourished children in its mobile health clinics and distributes clean water and food. In addition, Save the Children is committed to implementing policy and funding measures at national and international levels to improve health systems in developing countries. We work with governments and partners to develop poverty reduction strategies and improve basic health services such as mother and child care, immunization programs and antenatal care.

Education
Save the Children is committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their origin, gender or needs, has access to quality basic education. Furthermore, we believe that the right to education also applies to children in emergency situations and to children who have fled. Every fifth child of school age worldwide cannot go to school. Lack of school infrastructure, conflicts or natural disasters, poverty, gender - these are all factors that make it difficult for children to realise their right to education. The immediate and long-term consequences of a lack of schooling are serious for the children concerned - at the same time, they represent an immense challenge for the stability and development of entire societies. Education enables individual, social and economic development, and education imparts important values such as gender equality, a careful approach to nature, respect and tolerance for fellow human beings, etc. Save the Children is therefore committed to ensuring that all children can realise their right to education - even if they are affected by war, natural disasters, poverty or exclusion. For example, Save the Children runs early childhood development programmes in refugee camps so that children fleeing violence and war have no chance of education.

Child protection
Separated from their families while fleeing, recruited as child soldiers, beaten at home or forced into inhumane work: Millions of children are in danger of becoming victims of exploitation, violence, neglect and abuse. We do everything we can to make sure they are protected - no matter who they are or where they grow up. Save the Children believes that children grow up safest at home and within their social community. That is why Save the Children supports families, local authorities and national governments in their efforts to provide children with the care and protection they need and to promote non-violent parenting. Because the right to a violence-free childhood is still not realised in Switzerland or worldwide. Save the Children protects children by creating child-friendly spaces in conflict areas and refugee camps as well as in asylum centres in Switzerland. These spaces offer children a safe place where they can simply be a child, and we provide them with psychosocial support to deal with their traumatic experiences.
